Seatown Volleyball Beyond Borders

July 3, 2019

The gym is packed with teenage girls yelling. Volleyballs fly through the air. Words of encouragement bounce off the wall. Here at Seatown Volleyball Beyond Borders, coaches and athletes play more than just a game. Previously, the high cost of off-season volleyball meant that many girls could not get training to compete in high school. Southeast Seattle moms Lori Brown and Lori Chisholm (Mama Lori and Coach Lori, respectively) started an affordable girls volleyball league. Through a committed team of volunteer coaches, Seatown Volleyball has become a place for youth to learn lessons in community, leadership, and equity. “Seatown Volleyball is a microcosm of what the world can look like if you invest well,” says Mama Lori.
